Engines

At CMT Europe, we specialise in classic car engine rebuild and servicing, providing expert care for all petrol engines – from single cylinder units up to complex V12s. Whether air-cooled and water-cooled, carburetted or fuel injected, front-, mid- or rear engined, we offer precision workmanship backed by experience and a passion for engineering excellence. expertise to every job. Ours services cover everything from routine maintenance to concours-standard engine restorations.

While much of the recent work done by us relates to VW, Porsche, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz engines, we are not a brand specific company and like to work on a broad range of marques – if it runs on petrol then we like to work on it!

Below you will find some exemples of our craftmanship:

Porsche 911

The 911 is a high performance rear engined sportscar produced from 1963 until present. The engines are all flat six cylinder format and air-cooled until 1998. The 911 has had a very successful career as a race car. Originally released in 2.0 litre capacity on Solex 40 PI carburettors, by 1989, with the 964 version, it was a 3.6 litre on Bosch electronic fuel injection. The 911 long ago achieved iconic status in the motoring world.

Jaguar E-Type V12

The E-Type is a sports car released in 1961 with a 3.8 litre straight six engine, as a coupé or convertible. In 1971 the engine was changed to a V12 of 5.3 litres displacement. Thanks to a combination of aesthetics and high performance, the model is regarded as an icon of the motoring world and arguably the most beautiful car of all time.

VW-Porsche 914

The 914 is a mid-engined sportscar designed, manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen and Porsche, in collaboration, from 1969 until 1976. It was available as either a flat four cylinder of 1.7, 1.8, or 2.0 litre capacity, or as a flat six of 2.0 capacity. All engines are air-cooled. The 1.7 and 2.0 litre flat four engines use Bosch electronic fuel injection while the 1.8 litre engine and 2.0 flat six (from 911T) use carburettors.

Mercedes-Benz 190 SL (W121)

The 190 SL is a roadster produced between 1955 and 1963. The car was presented as a more affordable alternative to the exotic 300 SL. The basic styling, engineering and independent suspension were shared. While the 300 SL had a six cylinder direct fuel injected engine, the 190 SL had a more prosaic four cylinder engine running on a pair of Solex 44PHH carburettors.
